Springtime Ski Vibes Anyone?

Despite a less than inspiring snow season so far, I've had some amazing avalanche students and ski touring guests this winter! Thank you to everyone who came out to start their lifelong journey of avalanche education. You all inspire me to be the best teacher I can be and to continue reaching the community through my craft. And, I had the pleasure of traveling up to Washington to teach a few AIARE courses on behalf of @kafadventures - thanks Mick!

CURRENT SNOW CONDITIONS REPORT:

If you’re planning on coming up to the Eastside in the next couple weeks, this might be of interest to you:

We are pining for spring skiing here on the Eastside, but of course the weather Gods say otherwise and are bringing in some cold temps and snow this week. It snowed 6 -12 inches last night, with a few more inches forecast to drop in the next 24 hours. The winds have been quite strong today, so all that new snow could be either soft and rideable, or firm wind slab. The winds then switch to the north tomorrow (that is, will be coming from the north), and with that change will come some cold temps. Until Friday, we’re looking at a chilly and windy few days. However, looking into this weekend, we could see springtime temps and wonderful sunny days push back through, and who knows, maybe we’ll be skiing spring corn in no time! Meanwhile, we have some variable surface conditions, from frozen firm, to dust on crust, pockets of pow, and softening southerly slopes. Stay on your toes out there and be ready for anything!

COMING UP!

Unfortunately, my schedule this Spring is full until I leave for Europe, and so apologies to those who have reached out about tours and courses in the next couple months. For those of you who didn’t get a tour on the schedule, you are my priority next year!

LOOKING FORWARD...

Although we’re definitely not done shredding this season, I’m already looking to next spring and will soon start putting my Spring 2026 Europe ski tours on my guiding schedule. In particular, I will be guiding two Norway Ski & Sail trips and at least one Swiss hut-to-hut ski trip. Much of the information is already up on my website, www.pikamountainguides.com, so if you’re interested in these trips, feel free to check it out. These trips are amazingly unique experiences in some of the most beautiful spots on Earth.

If you're feeling the Spring Ski vibes, I'm sure you won't have to wait long. I hope you all get at least one or two more tours out in the backcountry this season. And if you're looking to pick up some new skills, like ski mountaineering or steep skiing, or looking to do some climbing this summer, reach out! And if you're planning on being in Europe this May or June and want to do some rock climbing or big mountain alpine climbing, I'll be over there during that time and would love to help you accomplish your goals.

Your guide,

Anouk Erni
